Evelyn Higgs

Evelyn E. Higgs, 94, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011. Evelyn was born November 4, 1916, in Rives, TN, daughter of Sydney and Viola (Tanner) Lytton. On March 7, 1942, Evelyn married William "Bill" Higgs, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She worked for the State of Kansas, Dept. of Revenue, as a tax examiner for many years, retiring in 1982. Evelyn was a long time member of the Central Church of Christ, Topeka, where she taught first grade Sunday school for over 30 years.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, William (Siri) Higgs and Michael Higgs; grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) and Mark (Stephenie) Higgs; and great grandchildren, Blake and Rylee Higgs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Higgs.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Higgs will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the funeral home.
