Evelyn Hein

Evelyn K. (Price) Hein, 86, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2005.

She was born December 26, 1918 in Topeka, the daughter of John B. and May Reed Price. Her grandparents were John B. Price, Sr. and Emma Price , and Colonel and Mrs. George Washington Reed. Col. Reed owned The Topeka Blade, later named The Topeka State Journal.

Mrs. Hein grew up in Ohio, but returned to Topeka her senior year of high school where she graduated from Topeka High School. During the two years that she attended Washburn University, she majored in Play Production and Theatre, being stage manager both years. The President of the University asked her to plan and produce Washburn's Diamond Jubilee Production during her second year. She was President of her sophomore class and also a 60 year member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Upon the death of her father, Mrs. Hein went to work for the National Youth Administration and then for the Santa Fe Railroad. Mrs. Hein owned and operated "Lynn's Campus Set", a ladies clothing store across from Washburn University for 12 years. Her store later merged with her son Larry's men's clothing store, named, "What's New with Lynn and Larry."

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral.

In 1943, she met Henry Allan Hein, a Lieutenant in the Air Force from McCook, Nebraska. They married in 1944 on his return from duties with the 8th Airborne in England. Their 60th wedding anniversary was December 17, 2004. Mr. Hein was a band director for Boswell Junior High, Topeka West High School and Washburn University and taught private trumpet and brass instrument lessons.

She is survived by her husband, Allan Hein; two sons, Larry Hein and his wife, Kathleen, Topeka, and their children, Matthew, Reed and Lacy, and Ron Hein and his wife, Julie, Topeka, and their children, Derek and Jennifer; a sister, Willette Hill, Loveland, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers John B. Price, Jr. and Harlan Price.

Her family and friends knew the love that was in her heart. She will be missed by those whose life she touched.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Hein will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday and visitation with family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
