Evelyn F. Mccune

Evelyn F. McCune, 90, of Topeka, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Brewster Place. She was born June 7, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Ray L. and Irene Honeywell Franks.

She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from Lake Erie College For Women in 1942. She was employed by the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation for two years.

She moved to Topeka in 1951. She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she sang in the chancel choir for 38 years and also served on the Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees and the Music Committee. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Topeka Home Economists in Homemaking. She was an active volunteer at Stormont-Vail Healthcare and served on the Auxiliary Board for over 30 years.

She married James R. McCune on January 6, 1943 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Sandra Mitchell and husband, Stan of Salina, Kansas; a son, James McCune, Jr. and wife, Donna of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and a daughter, Barbara Nutsch and husband, Bob of Kalamazoo, Michigan, nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard R. Franks of Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the First Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, The Brewster Place Foundation, 1205 SW 29th St., Topeka, KS 66611 or to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Ste. 100, Topeka, KS 66614. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
