Evelyn Bunge
Evelyn E. Bunge, 99, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Brewster Place. Evelyn was born October 3, 1909 in West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Edna (Secrest) Nay.
She graduated from the University of Iowa where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She taught in a one room school in rural Iowa and later worked as a librarian. She was a member of Chapter GJ of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Trinity Lutheran Church, and co-founder of Washburn Walkers with her husband.
Evelyn married Dr. Eldo F. Bunge in 1932. He died November 5, 1994. Survivors include twin daughters, Joanne (Elwaine) Pomeroy, Topeka; Jeanine (William) Laughlin, Great Bend; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and three step great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and a brother.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Private family inurnment will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eldo Bunge Scholarship Endowment for Washburn English Majors. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
