Evelyn R. Barngrover, 93, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
Born September 11, 1929 in Kansas City Missouri, she was the second daughter of Marion and Ruth (River) Bingham's ten children.
Evelyn passed away February 14, 2023 in Topeka, Kansas at Legend at Capitol Ridge.
The family moved to Topeka when Evelyn was four and she attended schools in Topeka.
She met Robert Barngrover in 1945. They were married on July 20, 1946 in Lawrence, KS. They were married 53 years until his passing in September 1999.
Her first employer was Sears Roebuck & Co for four years. She then worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Topeka for 40 years. Evelyn was also a long-time member and former officer of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers.
She was a member of Central Park Christian Church for 35 years. She then transferred to First Christian Church in 1990. She belonged to various church groups and the Good Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Her surviving siblings are her sister Carolyn Ralph and brother Kenneth Bingham of Topeka.
She is survived by her children Karen (Clark) Absher of Toledo, OR; Robert Gary (Eden) Barngrover of Topeka, KS; and Kerwin (Aon) Barngrover of Palmetto ,FL. She also is survived by her 5 grandchildren Teresa Ponte, Amy Ponte, Brandy Barngrover, Brandon Barngrover and Christopher Barngrover. Evelyn had five great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her daughter Sandra Ponte, her sister Dorothy and her six brothers Neville, George, Jack, Robert, Sylvan, and Allen.
Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her family and was hardworking and faithful.
The funeral will be held at Penwell Gabel Midtown, Topeka on February 25, 2023 at 2 pm with a brief reception following the service.
She will be interred at West Lawn Cemetery next to her beloved husband. No graveside services are planned.
