Evelyn Barbara Hannon, 94, passed away February 23, 2013. She was born on a farm east of Irving, KS, on March 24, 1918, the daughter of Barbara Vejvoda and James Horalek. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Will Horalek of Centralia, Frank Horalek of Blue Rapids, Eddie Horalek of Nebraska, James Horalek, Jr. of Manhattan, and Emil Horalek of Frankfort; and two sisters, Alice Cottrell of Marysville, and Lillian Brown of Centralia. Evelyn married Floyd W. Moore of Hiawatha on June 29, 1941. He died in 1943. She then married Lt. James Hannon on August 2, 1945. He died September 24, 1995. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Active Prime Timers, the Arab Shrine Nobelles, Eastern Star, and was past Worthy Matron of Irving Chapter #375. Evelyn was a strong supporter of KU basketball and devoted to her family and friends and enjoyed her home and neighbors.
Survivors include nieces and nephew, Barbara Hilpman of Lawrence, Margaret Joyce DeBord of Centralia, Sheri Knaub of Las Vegas, NV, Phyllis Marshall of Phoenix, AZ, Carolyn Moyer and Sonia Hensley of Manhattan, Marvin Horalek of Frankfort; children of deceased nephew John Roger Cottrell of Marysville, Brenda and Roger Cottrell of Marysville, and Ronda Noel of Wichita; and many great nieces and nephews and members of the Moore and Hannon families.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Irving Greenwood Cemetery at Blue Rapids, KS.
