Evelyn Darlene (Royer) Argabright, 95, of Topeka, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021.
She was born July 22, 1925, in Dallas Center, Iowa, the daughter of Rudy and Elta (Runte) Royer. She received her Bachelor's Degree from McPherson College in 1947 and she received her Master's Degree from the University of Kansas in 1964.
Evelyn was employed by USD 501 for 31 years, retiring in 1987 as their librarian. In her formative years she was a Teacher and Vice Principal at Parkdale Elementary School.
She was an active member of our community: Member of the Church of Brethren, Olive Branch Board from 1985-1993 and a lifetime member of the NEA. She volunteered for the Olive Branch Store for many years and was a member of the International Reading Circle. She also was a long time volunteer worker for the Dovetail, part of the Doorstep Foundation.
Evelyn married William Argabright on December 22, 1946 in Dallas Center, IA. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2005. Survivors include her children, Rita Jo Newman and William Charles Argabright; grandchildren, Grady Newman, Scarlet Argabright Smith, Sean Newman, Travis Argabright, Danny Bohnam, Tila Vasquez, and Tammy Fisher; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and her dog companions, Mitzi and Java.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sister, Rita Slifer.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
A Funeral Ceremony will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Rochester Community Church of the Brethren, 3201 NW Rochester Rd, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Topeka.
