Eva Lorene Schafer, 90, of Topeka, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Brewster Health Center in Topeka. She was born February 28, 1918 in Osawatomie, KS. She was the daughter of Anna and Elmer Fields.
She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1935. She worked at Cokers Store in Osawatomie and at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in Topeka. She is a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church in Osawatomie.
On April 2, 1966, Eva married James R. Schafer in Topeka. He died September 21, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Oliver, and a step-daughter, Julia Mercer. Survivors include a nephew, Philip Oliver of Topeka; a niece, Linda Sneegas of Lawrence, KS; a step-granddaughter, and 5 step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on January 12 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mrs. Schafer will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11 at the funeral home.
