Longtime Topeka resident, Eugene Tedrow Halbert, went to his eternal rest on December 27, 2014. He was born in Topeka June 28, 1924. These last several years he has been a resident at Brewster Place.
Eugene graduated from Highland Park High School. He also matriculated at the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering.
During WWII he served in the Navy and subsequently completed more than 20 years of service in the Naval reserve. During his professional career he worked at Santa Fe Railroad, Power Constructors Inc. and Midwest Line Builders. He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 51 and Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Eugene married Evelyn Mildred Spatz on April 1, 1950. She expired this last September. He is survived by his children Susan Shupp (Fred), Kevin (Charlene) and Philip (Becky) Halbert; and grandchildren Rebecca, Gabriel, Nathaniel, and Lorien Shupp; Heather Guerra (Jacob); Rachel, Benjamin, Samantha, Kimberly, and Zachary Halbert.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
