Eugene Dean Shaffer, 91, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, August 19, 2002 at a Topeka care center.
He was born January 22, 1911 at Topeka, Kansas the son of Earl C. and Elizabeth (Braem) Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer was raised in Chicago and returned to Topeka in 1930.
He was employed by Capitol Printing Company in 1930. He later worked for Stauffer Publications until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. Shaffer was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. At the church he served as an elder, president, and held many other offices. He was also a member of the Printers Section of the Communication Workers of America, New Beginning Choir, the Lutheran Laymens League and Active Prime Timers. He was a member of the Topeka Musicians Union for more than fifty years.
He married Edna M. Schaefer July 8, 1932 at Topeka, Kansas. She survives at the home. He was preceded in death by one son Eugene Lee Shaffer. Other survivors include:
one son, Edward Dean Shaffer San Jose, California
and three grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
