Eugene "Gene" Jonathan Anderson, 88 died August 26, 2004, at Midland Hospice House Topeka, Kansas. Gene was born in Topeka, Kansas, on Sept. 4, 1915, to Grace Byers and Charles Anderson. He attended Topeka Public Schools and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1934. He was graduated from Strickler Business College and later took classes at Rocky Mountain Junior College in Fairplay, Colorado and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He married Margaret Helen Sanders on May 29, 1938.
Gene was employed by Halls Printing Company and the Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years. He retired in 1971 and moved to Buena Vista, Colorado where he and Margaret built their dream home. During the 10 years he lived in Colorado he worked for the Chaffee County News and was appointed to the Chaffee County Zoning Commission. He was a member of Topeka Downtown Kiwanis. At the time of his death, Gene had three of his oil paintings on display at Brewster Place.
He was preceded in death by a son Philip Wayne Anderson who died Feb. 4, 1981 and a great grandson, William James Anderson. He his survived by his wife, Margaret, of 66 years, two sons, D. Keith Anderson and his wife Carmen of Valley Center, Kansas; David and his wife Ruth of Belleville, Illinois; and a daughter in law Judy Anderson Moler of Topeka; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Cremation is planned.
Services will be 11:00 am Monday, August 30, 2004 at Countryside Methodist Church in Topeka.
