Eugene E. Sallee

Eugene Everett Sallee died on Monday, July 18th. He was born January 20, 1924, and raised in Topeka. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. He attended the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. Gene worked for the American Can Company in Chicago, IL, Farmland Industries in Kansas City, MO, and most recently the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Topeka. He retired in 2000 at the age of 76.

Gene was an avid golfer and traveler. He traveled to Europe, Russia, the British Isles, and throughout the United States. He participated in Topeka's Civic Theater and barbershop quartet. In 1997 he hosted two exchange students from Russia.

Gene leaves his brother, James Edwin Sallee, formerly of Topeka, who now resides in Lawrence, and a number of nieces and nephews including Katherine Warren and Andrew Warren, both of Silver City, NM; Bradley Sallee of Austin, TX; Bruce Sallee of Houston, TX; and Irene Herring of Fort Benning, GA. He also leaves five great nieces, Kaylin and Kyndra Sallee of Austin TX; Katie Mitchell of Aurora, CO; Emily Dunn of Brevard, NC; Molly Herring of Fort Benning, GA, and a great-great niece, Maile Mitchell of Aurora, CO.

Mr. Sallee was cremated and at his request, no services are scheduled.
