Esther Louise Toburen, 84, of Topeka, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024.
She was born October 17, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of David and Gladys (Purkeypile) Coffman. She graduated from Topeka High School.
Esther married Dwaine Merle Toburen on November 5, 1956 in Blue Rapids, KS. They welcomed four children, Rodney, Randy, Anita and Diana. Together Dwaine and Esther, enjoyed going bowling, attending family reunions, camping and fishing as a family.
Esther was employed by the Jostens American Yearbook Co.
She attended Grace United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. She taught Sunday school, attended Bible study and helped with the vacation Bible school. Esther was also a part of the Quilters Group at Topeka First Assembly of God and loved the time she was able to spend with other group members. She volunteered at McCrite nursing home for many years.
When Esther was younger, she played softball with her sister Rosie. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and going to various church activities. Her biggest pride and joy was supporting her kids and grandchildren at their sports and activities. Esther enjoyed getting the family together for gatherings.
Her infectious smile and laughter will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her children, Rodney Toburen, Son, Randy (Mary) Toburen, Anita (Craig) Madill and Diana (Doug) Wadsworth; her beloved grandchildren, Joshua (T.C.) Madill, Shawn (Angie) Madill, Stephen (Anne) Toburen, Daniel Wadsworth, Timothy (Amber) Wadsworth, Candi (Brandon) Gregory, Andrew (Arielle) Toburen, Matthew (Tyla) Wadsworth, Rachael (Michael) Strobel, James (Shannel) Wadsworth, Gideon (Grace) Toburen, Melissa Madill, Melinda Madill, Miranda Toburen and John (Tiffanie) Toburen; numerous great grandchildren and her siblings, Virgil Coffman and Loretta Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and siblings, Donald Coffman and Rosalie Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest with her husband at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
