Esther Bruns

Esther A. Bruns, 88, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center. She was born December 4, 1915 in Stafford County, KS, the daugher of Louis and Martha Messerly Koch. She was married to Reverend Arlen J. Bruns on November 8, 1942. He passed away in September, 2000. Mrs. Bruns was a dedicated partner with her husband in service to the mission of the Lutheran Church-Kansas District . For 49 years she transcribed braille for Lutheran Braille Workers. An accomplished needleworker, Mrs. Bruns donated articles to many charities.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Richters and husband Dennis, of Utica, NE; sons, David and wife, Julaine of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; and Gordon and wife, Rebecca of Forest Park, IL: 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Loretta Sprehe, Oakley, KS.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3525 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS. Mrs. Bruns will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 25 and family will greet friends between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
