Erwin LaVon Dodson, 80, of Topeka, passed away, Friday August 5, 2011.
He was born January 18, 1931 in Iuka, KS the son of Erwin and Zenith Holder Dodson. LaVon was a 1949 graduate of Pratt High School and Pratt Jr. College in 1951. He attended Ft. Hays State College one year.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge and served in the Army National Guard from 1953-1956.
He was employed by Santa Fe General Office and retired in October 1994 following 38 years of service. He worked in the department of Auditing Freight Accounts.
LaVon married Joan Womack September 24, 1955 in the Iuka Methodist Church. She survives. Other survivors include one son, David L. Dodson (Robin), Franklin, NC; one daughter, Julie Dodson-Bell, Topeka; three granddaughters, one great grandson; one sister, Darlene (Don) Snyder, Wichita, KS and one brother, Merle (Karen) Dodson, Pratt, KS.
He will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral ceremony will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday August 11, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
