Ervin "Toby" Haynes, 99, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012.
He was born on March 10, 1913 in Holden, MO, the son of Riley E. Haynes & Myrtle (Jourdan) Haynes.
Ervin married Nanette Louis Peterson on November 23, 1946 in Leavenworth, KS. She precedes him in death.
Mr. Haynes retired from Colmery O'Neil Hospital in January of 1979 after 35 years of government service. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army Air Corp and received five battle stars for service in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He retired from the Kansas Army National Guard.
Ervin was a member of the YOMAC Class of the First United Methodist Church in Topeka, the Masonic Lodge in Holden, MO, a life member of the VFW post 1650 as well as the American Legion post #1.
Survivors include two sons, David (Diane) Haynes and Carl Haynes; four grandsons, Ross, Reed, Russell and Jesse (Nicole) Haynes; great grandson, Aaron Alan Haynes; step grandson, Zac Cashman; step great granddaughter, Zoe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Penwell-Gable Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Mr. Haynes will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Mt.
