Ernestine Marie "Ernie" Gunzelman, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007.

She was born April 3, 1922 in Dunlap, KS, the daughter of Bryan E. and Mae Wells Shawgo.

She graduated from Emporia High School and received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Washburn University. She married Joe Gunzelman in October, 1942. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years and was an active member of the Washburn University Alumni Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Gunzelman of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Jean Small of Prairie Village, KS; a brother, Gail "Bud" Shawgo of Manhattan, KS and numerous neices and nephews.

Mrs. Gunzelman will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Monday, Feb 12 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, and sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
