Ernest H. Blair, 96, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014.
He was born July 18, 1917 in Topeka, the son of Hunter and Flossie Burkhart Blair. Ernest graduated from Seaman High School in 1936. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in Europe in the 591st Field Artillery Battalion.
He married Dorothy A. Willett of Topeka July 26, 1942, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were sisters Wilma Thornton, Clara Ulrich and brother Earl Blair. He is survived by his daughter Cherry Ann Hall of Middletown, RI.
Ernest worked as an insurance broker for the Meade Company for many years, retiring in 1980. He moved to Arizona after retiring and returned to Topeka in 1984 and lived there ever since.
He served as a deacon at St. David's Episcopal Church and was previously a member of Grace Cathedral in Topeka. He was a member of VFW Philip Billard Post #1650, American Legion Capitol Post #1 and the Shawnee Country Club.
Mr. Blair's wishes were to be cremated. Private inurnment will take place at Mount Hope Mausoleum, Topeka.
