Erna Winifred Malin, 91, Topeka, went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2007.
Winifred was born April 6, 1915 in Chanute, the daughter of Ralph and Roxie Malin. She and her twin brother, Ted were the oldest of six children. Winifred graduated from high school in Buffalo and continued her education at beauty college in Kansas City, MO.
She worked at an ammunitions plant during WWII and purchased a beauty salon in Kansas City at the end of the war. After moving to Topeka, she worked at the W.T. Grant Company and spent the remainder of her career at Sears Roebuck & Company.
Winifred was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she attended for over forty years. Her faith in God and service to others were a major part of her life and brought her much joy. During the last eight years of her life, Winifred resided at Westwood Manor where she received loving care from the staff.
Winifred is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Hedstrom; grandson, Marc Hedstrom; granddaughter, Angela Cool and her husband Gary; two great grandchildren, Corbin and Carter Cool, all of Topeka; her sister, Vivian Stryker, Pleasant Hill, MO and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ted Malin and Victor Malin; and sisters, Irma Spohn and Marjorie White.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Winifred will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday.
