Emolyn L. "Emmy" Spaulding, 74, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at a Topeka hospital. She was born July 23, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was the daughter of Harold J. and Fern Dale Bonner of Topeka. She moved to Topeka and lived here most of her life. She graduated from Topeka High in 1953. She married John P. "Phil" Spaulding, on July 13, 1963 in Lyndon, Kansas. Emmy was employed by Capital Federal for 10 years. In 1986 she and her husband "Phil", moved to Beaumont, Texas where they lived for 11 years. They returned home to Topeka in 1997. Emmy was very devoted to her family and always believed in family first. She spent many hours knitting, quilting, and cooking and she never missed a Birthday….
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Serena Bailey. Emmy is survived by her husband, Phil Spaulding of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Deborah L. Beeler (Scott) of Leawood, Kansas, Linda M. Metzler (C.C.) of Topeka; sons, Michael D. Gatrost of Topeka and Jeffrey E. Spaulding (Lynda) of Topeka; step-daughter, Vicki L. Hughes (Dan) of Topeka and step-son, John Neil Spaulding of St. Louis; sisters, Cynthia Cozad (Joe) of Overland Park, Kansas and Kathy Flesher (Jack) of Wichita, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 5 great- grandchildren and her beloved, "Missy". Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Emmy will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meals On Wheels, 1500 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
