Elsie B. Zirkle, 96, Topeka, died Monday, March 15, 2004 at Brewster Place. She was born Jan. 24, 1908 in Tecumseh, the daughter of James O. and Grace Logan Miller.
Mrs. Zirkle graduated from Topeka High School in 1927 and from Topeka Business College. She was raised in Topeka and later lived in Leavenworth and in Texarkana, TX from 1940 until returing to Topeka in the 1960s. She was employed at Santa Fe Railray from 1928 to 1939 and, while in Texarkana, worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. After returing to Topeka, she worked for the State of Kansas Motor Vehicle Department until retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
She married Russell Zirkle on Oct. 14, 1939 in Lawrence. He died Jan. 10, 1970.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Hengelfelt and Elizabeth Eaton, both in Topeka.
Cremation is planned. A graveside inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery.
