Eloise Wells

Eloise M. Wells, Topeka, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Brewster Place.

Eloise was born in Appleton City, MO, the daughter of Lester and Anna (Gibson) Mendenhall.

She was a graduate of Appleton City High School and finished her business school training in Wichita, KS.

She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper in a variety of businesses early in life. She took great pride in her accomplishment of aviation flight school. Her life was dedicated to managing the home front.

Eloise married Delbert E. Wells on Oct. 20, 1945, in Wichita, KS. He survives. Their loving devotion towards each other was witnessed in their daily lives.

Eloise attended worship services and enjoyed her involvement in other spiritual studies provided by Brewster Place.

Throughout the years, Eloise refined the art of living with grace, cultivating many friends and "kids" along the way. Eloise was one of the founding members of the Mulvane Women's Board, Mulvane Art Museum and remained an active member throughout her life. She volunteered at the VA hospital and was an active member of her neighborhood, Knollwood Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining, traveling, playing golf, tennis, visiting friends and neighbors along her daily walks with her beloved dog. Her culinary skills were quite accomplished and enjoyed by many. Eloise never knew a stranger. Her loving kindness and contagious smile will be fondly remembered by all.

Eloise is survived by nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and dedicated friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nevin and Don Mendenhall.

Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date with family in Nixa, MO.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sat., June 14 at the Klinge Activity Center, lower level, main building at Brewster Place Retirement Campus.
