Reverend Elmer C. Zamzow, 91, Topeka, formerly of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Aldersgate Village.
Reverend Zamzow was born October 8, 1914 in Portage, WI, the son of Charles G. and Jennie Petra Zamzow. He grew up on a dairy farm on the banks of the Wisconsin River, where he learned with his five brothers and two sisters the value of hard work and a love of the land. This is where God touched and moved him to be His servant.
He received his Bachelors Degree from Sterling College in Sterling, and attended seminary at Pittsburgh Presbyterian Xenia Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA. He pastored churchs in Granger, WA, Spirit Lake, ID, West Richland, WA, Rawlings, WY and Greeley, CO. Reverend Zamzow also served as interim pastor in multiple churches.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel Byall, and sons; Tom Zamzow and wife, Rosalie, Topeka, Phil Zamzow and wife, Sheridith, Wichita, Joe Zamzow, Miami, FL, and daughter; Ruth Cawyer and husband, Carroll, Stephenville, TX; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Orrin Zamzow and Alwyn Zamzow, both of Baraboo,WI.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Zamzow will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
