Elmer Reed

Elmer Allen Reed, 74, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006. He was born September 14, 1931 to Elmer and Jessie Flo Casto Reed in Wichita, KS.

He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the United States Army Air Corps. He retired as an X-Ray Technician from the VA Hospital. He worked previously at the Topeka Medical Center and Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the VFW Chapter 1650, and was a past President of Kansas X-Ray Technician Society. He was a member of the Crestview United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Menna Lee Reed. Other survivors include: Son, Richard Reed and his wife Joan of Topeka; Daughter, Jane Wonnell and her husband Doug of Reston, VA; Son, Alan Reed of Topeka; two grandsons, Lee and Tyler Reed both of Topeka; brother, Gareth Reed and his wife Betty, Ft. Scott, KS; sister, Norma Porter of El Paso, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr., Topeka, KS 66614. Mr. Reed will lie in state after Noon on Monday, March 13, 2006. The family will receive friends and family at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M Monday, March 13, 2006. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crestview United Methodist Church.
