Elmer L. Gunderson, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Leawood.
Elmer was born November 14, 1931, in Lincoln, KS, son of Elmer and Florence (Dupes) Gunderson. Elmer honorably served in the US Navy on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Korean War.
He worked as a Broadcast Engineer at WIBW-TV for almost 58 years until his health declined in April.
Elmer was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and the Society of Broadcast Engineers.
He is survived by a friend, Charlaine Milliken, Overland Park; her children, Laura (Steve) Sereg and Scott (Lisa) Milliken; her grandchildren, Preston Sereg, Heather Sereg, Grace Milliken and Colin Milliken; her mother, Micky Henry; and a large radio and broadcast family.
Elmer was a quiet, gentle man who left a huge footprint in all the lives he touched over the years.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Visitation will follow the service for one hour at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
