Elizabeth Paulette Carriger Cooper Wilson, 74, Topeka, passed away Jan. 22, 2013. Mrs. Wilson was born Mar. 26, 1938, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Vandora R. Carriger and Wardell Delaney. She was raised by family members Fred and Christena Cooper, who she considered parents, from the age of two months. She was raised in Atchison, KS, and attended Lincoln Elementary School and Atchison High School. Mrs. Wilson graduated from the Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing at St. Joseph, MO.
On July 23, 1960, in Leavenworth, Paulette married Donald L. Wilson. From this union were three children: Vandora Wilson, Donald Wilson, Jr., and Priscilla Wilson, all of Topeka. Mrs. Wilson worked for the Menninger Foundation for 12 years and from 1978 to 1997 was employed by the State of Kansas at Topeka Youth & Adult Services, and also at Stormont-Vail Health Center until her retirement. She also sold Mary Kay cosmetics for 10 years. Mrs. Wilson's church affiliations include the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atchison, KS, and the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka, KS. She is also survived by granddaughter, Aquila Wilson, of Wichita; two grandsons, Jericho Wilson, of Austin, TX, and Jahleel Wilson, of Topeka; and three great grandsons.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilson will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
