Elizabeth Ward Carlson, 92, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at her home in Topeka, KS.
Elizabeth was born September 28, 1922, in Lindsborg, KS, to Sidney and Raye Henmon. She graduated in 1940 from Lindsborg High School and from Bethany College in 1944. While at Bethany she was crowned Daisy Queen (Bethanian Queen). She taught business classes at Concordia High School from 1944 to 1945.
She married Lawrence Magnus Carlson on April 28, 1945, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. They moved to Topeka, KS in 1961.
Elizabeth was a mother and homemaker from 1945 to 1969. She was a substitute teacher, held various positions with the Kansas Legislature, a secretary with KNEA-Reading Circle, and the Executive Secretary for the Board of Healing Arts, retiring in 1985.
She was an organist and pianist with the mission church St. Thomas Lutheran that later merged with First Lutheran where she remained a long-time active member. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter GK, Topeka Music Study Club, Menninger Bible Studies, and a docent at Cedar Crest. Elizabeth was a volunteer with the Topeka Symphony and Symphony League. She enjoyed the time she spent with her many friends playing bridge.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann (Bob) Delach, of Tampa, FL and Barbara (Bob) Berggren, of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Michael and Steven Delach, Brianna and Justin Berggren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at First Lutheran Church, 1234 Fairlawn Road, Topeka, KS. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg, KS.
