Elizabeth R. Shaffer, 99, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011.
Elizabeth was born February 12, 1912, in Topeka, daughter of Clair and Agnes (Strathearn) Rutledge. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1930. Elizabeth worked for various insurance offices and political headquarters offices in Topeka and Washington, DC. She (and her family) left Topeka in the spring of 1945, living in Arlington, VA, Prairie Village, KS, Long Beach, CA, Sun City, CA, Ocala, FL, until returning to Topeka to reside at Brewster Place Retirement community.
Elizabeth married Willard H. Shaffer at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka on October 30, 1938. Judge Shaffer passed away on December 24, 1998.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Robert Shaffer, William Shaffer, and Kelley Shaffer. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Daniel.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will be at Grace Cathedral columbarium. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
