Elizabeth Christina Peters Nice, 65, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at her home in Lawrence, Kansas.
She was born Feb. 11, 1941 in Spearfish, SD, the daughter of John Edward and Elsie Leila Leonard Peters. She was raised on a ranch near Alzada, Montana, and graduated from high school in Belle Fourche, SD. She then attended business school in Denver and Wichita State University, where she majored in Piano Performance and Social Work.
She married Doyle Dean Nice in Denver in 1960. They had two children. They later divorced.
Mrs. Nice worked as a Social Worker while she lived in Wichita. In 1972, she moved with her family to Shawnee Mission, where she was the co-founder and co-owner of Computer Consultants, Inc. She was a devoted classical pianist, Girl Scout Leader, and competition contract duplicate bridge player. In her later years, she dedicated herself to raising purebred AKC Yorkshire Terriers. Many families in the area have Mrs. Nice's Yorkies as beloved family members.
Survivors include her son, John Doyle Nice, Prairie Village; her daughter, Elizabeth Nice Lumpkin, Topeka; her sister, Donna Peters Moorhead, Moorestown, NJ; two grandchildren, and her last two Yorkies, Sammy and BigFoot.
Mrs. Nice will lie in state from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka.
Services will be 3:00 pm Saturday at Mt. Hope Abbey in Topeka. Inurnment services will be in July in Pine Slope Cemetery, Belle Fourche, SD.
