Elizabeth P. "Lib" Foster, 87, Topeka, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Brewster Place Health Center.
She was born Feb. 23, 1920 in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of John B. and Bessie C. Townsend Pleasants. She was raised in Greensboro and graduated from The Women's College at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught high school business courses in Aberdeen, NC prior to her marriage.
Mrs. Foster lived in Salina and in Prairie Village before moving to Topeka in 1951.
She was a member of First Congregational Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Nautilus Club and the Telephone Pioneers, and served as a volunteer at Meals on Wheels, Doorstep and Kaw Valley Girl Scouts.
She married John C. Foster on July 31, 1946. He died September 2, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Foster on March 11, 1993 and by two brothers, John Pleasants, Jr. and Robert Pleasants.
Survivors include six children, Carolyn Schneider and husband, Gerald, Jean Herrold, Anne Long and husband, Donald, Bob Foster and wife, Mickey, and Kay Foster, all of Topeka and John "Bill" Foster of Kansas City; a sister, Carolyn Harris and husband, Hank of Winston-Salem, NC; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Foster will lie in state after 9:00 am Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
