Elizabeth Jane Henrie

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Henrie, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023.

She was born November 24, 1942, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Neal B. and Mamie L. (Logan) Bardsley.

She graduated from Topeka High School in 1960 and Washburn University with a degree in Education in 1964.
Betty was a kindergarten teacher at Auburn Elementary School, retiring after 50 years of service. She taught over 1,000 Auburn-Washburn kindergarten students.

On March 18, 1966, she married Orville R. "Bob" Henrie in Topeka. Together they founded The Ford Performance Club. She was a racing enthusiast, most notably World of Outlaws. She was also an avid KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks fan. Betty was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her special Old Settler's Beans and chocolate cakes and cookies.

Betty is survived by her twin brother, Bill and Judy Bardsley, Topeka; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and numerous friends, including Steve and Dana Kinser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brother, Bob Bardsley; and her parents.

Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Mount Hope Chapel, 17th & Fairlawn, Topeka. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery. A visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Mid-Town Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Ford Performance Club or National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum all in care of the funeral home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
