Elizabeth Ann Thornwall

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Thornwall, 76, of Potomac, MD, passed away as the result of a stroke, on Monday, April 2, 2007 at Casey House near Rockville, MD. She was born on her maternal grandparents' farm in Wabaunsee Co., KS on August 19, 1930 the daughter of Orville E. and Mary E. Billings Strimple. She graduated from Seaman High School and Clark's School of Business in Topeka, and was employed by the Santa Fe Offices. On August 18, 1950 she married Joseph Carl Thornwall. They left Topeka later that year and lived in Nicosia, Cyprus for several years before returning to the Washington DC area. Betty is survived by Joe and three sons, Daryl Thornwall of Newport News, VA, Randy Thornwall of Gaithersburg, MD, Greg Thornwall and wife, Olga of Boonsboro, MD, granddaughters Megan, Jenna and Elizabeth, one grandson Carl, and two sisters, Carolyn Tromba and husband, Jack of Plano, TX and Jan Williams and husband, Myron of Bella Vista, AR. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Entombment will follow. Mrs. Thornwall will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Montgomery County Hospice, 1355 Piccard Dr., Ste.100, Rockville MD 20850.
