Eleanor Ayres

Eleanor Ayres, 85, of Topeka, died of cancer on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at her residence. She was born on January 20, 1919 at DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of William P. and Mabel Ronan Ballou. She graduated from DeKalb Township High School in 1936 and attended the University of Missouri. She married Richard Ayres on December 2, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri. They moved to Topeka in 1952. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1986. Survivors include five children and their spouses, Dick and Laura Ayres of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Margy and Randy Webb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim and Kathy Ayres of Fort Worth, Texas, Linda and Randy Crandall of Topeka, Deborah and John Cox of Jonesville, North Carolina, twenty-one grandchildren (which includes 7 grandsons and daughters in law), 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, James Ballou of Overland Park, Kansas, two sisters, Jeannette Downing of Olathe,Kansas and Margaret Shaw of Topeka and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor was known for her serving heart and open home. She was the ultimate hostess to all her family, friends, and even strangers. Her great love for her family was evident to all; her generosity unparalleled. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Cremation took place. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 S.W. Mulvane St.,Topeka. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, Ks. 66606 or the Salvation Army, 1320 S.E. 6th Ave., Topeka, Ks. 66607 or the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, Ks. 66608. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
