Eldo Schmidt, age 83, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away May 24, 2005 at Brewster Place.
He was born September 6, 1921 in Walton, Kansas, the son of Abraham and Sarah Schmidt. He was a 1939 graduate of Walton High School and attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. He resided in Newton until moving to Topeka in 1989.
Mr. Schmidt worked as a Salesman for Wonder Bread Bakery for 30 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Topeka and a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital. Mr. Schmidt had served 3 1/2 years as a medical assistant in Government hospitals for injured soldiers.
He was married to Allene Unruh on May 19, 1948 in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She preceded him death on January 29, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Simon Schmidt and one sister Rachel Gossen.
Mr. Schmidt enjoyed gardening, as well as sharing and spending time with his family. He brought much love and laughter to his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by two daughters; Betty Tatro and husband Jim of Clearwater, KS; Naomi Kelley and husband Jim of Topeka, KS, and; one brother, Art Schmidt of Walton, KS, one sister, Evelyn Lehrman of Goessel, and four grandchildren, Stacey Geraci and husband Rob, Dwight Kelley and wife Marie, Cris Harper and husband Daniel, and Matthew Keeler, and two great grandchildren, Alycia and Samantha.
Graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Schmidt will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel.
