Eldessa "Jimmy" Givens (please use this as heading)
Eldessa "Jimmy" Irene Givens, 79, Topeka, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at a Topeka hospital.
She was born April 29, 1924 in Boyle, Kansas, the daughter of Albert J. and Alice E. Irwin Rolin. She was raised in Holton, graduating from high school there in 1942.
Mrs. Givens worked as a data entry operator for the State of Kansas, SRS, for about 20 years, before retiring in 1986. She had served as a Boy Scout den mother.
She married W C Givens on Sept. 16, 1944 in Yuma, Arizona. He died Nov. 17, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a son, William C. "Bill" Givens on Jan. 18, 1999, 2 brothers and a sister.
Survivors include daughter, Clara Zeller, Topeka; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Mercille Givens, Holton; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Givens, Holton; grandchildren, Robin Givens, Amy Givens, Daniel and Ashley Zeller, Tammy Givens, and Cliff Givens; 2 brothers, Albert Rolin, and Amos Rolin; sister, Delphine Catron.
Services will be 9:00 am Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Givens will lie in state after noon Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 pm Sunday.
