Elden Guilfoil, 93, of Eskridge, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at St Francis Hospital.
He was born Oct. 30, 1910 in Eskridge, the son of Leslie Thorne and Valora Maude Piper Guilfoil. He graduated from Eskridge High School in 1930 and had lived all his life in Eskridge.
He worked as a farm laborer 1930-1932, and for Santa Fe Railway from 1932-1942 and from 1946-1955. He worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department from 1956 until retiring in 1971. He served in the US Army from 1942-1945.
He was a member of Eskridge Presbyterian Church.
He married Betty R. Kitt on May 10, 1941 in Oskaloosa. She died in May, 1968. He married Viola Marken on Oct. 1, 1970 in Eskridge. She survives.
Other survivors include 2 daughters, Norma Doty, Eskridge and Judy Say, Topeka; son, Richard Guilfoil, Topeka; step-son, Harvey Marken, Salina; 3 step-daughters, Zazle Fabert, Topeka, Gladys Bloomfield, Eskridge, Helen Dinger, Missouri; 2 brothers, Russell Guilfoil, Eskridge and Ralph Guilfoil, North Kansas City, MO; sister, Eunice Bernet, Fairway; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Allen Say on Jan. 15, 2001.
Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene. Graveside services will be 3:30 pm at Eskridge Cemetery.
Mr. Guilfoil will lie in state from noon to 9 pm Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 pm.
