Elaine M. Dunlap, 78, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Midland Hospice House.
Elaine was born 27 May, 1935, on a farm near Concordia, Kan., to August and Nola Dale(Burroughs) Tubach. She was a 1953 graduate of Glasco Rural High School, where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen.
She first worked for the Glasco Lumber Yard. In 1957, she moved to Wichita, where she was employed by the Boeing Aircraft Co. She moved to Waukegan Ill., in 1966, with her sister's family, where she was employed as a bookkeeper for Kutzler Motors. The following year, she moved back to Wichita where she married Douglas Dunlap. While married, they lived in Kansas, Michigan, and Kentucky. Elaine moved back to Topeka, after her divorce, in 1983. She spent the remainder of her career as nursing assistant in mental health at the Topeka VA Hospital, where in 1999 she was recognized with an Award for Excellence in Nursing. She retired in 2001 and lived with her daughter to help care for her grandchildren.
Elaine is a longtime member of Countryside Methodist Church. She found joy in her family, watching KU basketball games and attending her grandchildren's school events. She also enjoyed vacationing with family.
Elaine is survived by her daughter Rebecca Reid; two grandchildren, Alex and Abigail; her sisters Freda Saiger (Howard), Topeka, and Cora O'Rourke (Joe), Iola; her brother Raymond, Larned; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Tubach, Emporia, and seven loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lemoine and Clyde.
Elaine was cremated. A memorial service will be held at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 Burlingame Rd., Topeka, at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
