Eileen Speerschneider Heller, 100, of Topeka, passed away Jan. 6, 2011, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born Mar. 30, 1910, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Leonard F. and Jennie Newman Speerschneider.
Eileen attended Linwood High School in Linwood, KS, and later attended Lawrence Business College. On Mar. 28, 1936, in Lawrence, KS, Eileen married Joseph Heller. He preceded her in death in 1976. She had worked most her life as an auditor for First National Bank and Bank of America. Eileen was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka. She started the Lutheran World Relief sewing group at her church in 1977 and the Lutheran Braille Workers Sight Saving Center at her church in 1982.
Survivors include son, Leonard (Liz) Heller; and grandchildren, Daniel (Tamara) Heller and Sarah Heller, all of Lexington, KY. She was preceded in death by a sister, Meta Speerschneider.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Topeka, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66606. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore St., Topeka, KS 66606-1445.
