Eileen Roe, 96, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at a local hospital.
She was born on November 2, 1920 in Worcester, England to William and Winifred (Evans) Cooke.
She met her husband, James Roe, at a USO dance in Worcester, England during WWII. They were married on March 17, 1945 in Worcester. She came to Topeka as a war bride in 1946 and never left. She was very proud to become a naturalized U.S. citizen on October 6, 1953. She loved her profession of homemaker, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter, Valerie (George) Carter, of Topeka; grandson, David Carter, granddaughters, Becky (Andy) Balaun, Katy (Chris) Onnen, Jenny Hodges, Andrea Hodges, six great-grandchildren, Brendan, Tara, Emily, Myles, Molly, and Will; brother-in-law, Harley (Regina) Roe, and two nieces and four nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Ronald Cooke; and her daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Hodges.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at University United Methodist Church, 1621 SW College, Topeka. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Private inurnment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions in her honor can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or to University United Methodist Church.
