Effie Varney

Effie E Varney, 91, of Norman, OK, says left this earth following her battle with heart disease Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

She was born at home October 1, 1931, in Pawnee County, Kansas, the daughter of Edward Frederick Bingaman and "Carrie" Caroline Eliza Doty Murdie Bingaman.

Effie retired after 24 years with the Kansas Department of SRS. She was an active member of Generations Church of the Nazarene in Norman, OK. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, KS, prior to her move to Oklahoma. Effie enjoyed serving with gifts of money and new clothing to local charities especially at Christmas. She enjoyed traveling and seeing all the sites locally and nationally, camping with her husband and friends, and celebrating every holiday with her family in or out of the hospital.

She married Jack Doty in 1951. One child from this union, Debra A Doty Garletts and husband, Joe, of Mesa, Arizona, four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren survive.

She married Max A Varney on October 30, 1964, four step-children and eight grandchildren survive. One child from this union, Terri L Standridge and her husband, Donnie, of Norman, OK, one grandson, three step grandchildren, one great grandson, and three step great grandchildren survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 10, 2022, at Generations Nazarene Church, Norman, OK. Mrs. Varney will lie in state where family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, December 9, 2022, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman, OK,

Effie's family greet friends and relatives from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS. A funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1001 SW Buchanan St, Topeka, KS 66604. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.
