Edythe "Edye" Marker, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born on December 30, 1923 in Maple Hill, KS, the daughter of William A. and Lova C. Lemon Weiler. She graduated from Silver Lake High School and attended Washburn University. She was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for a few years and later for Stormont-Vail and Topeka USD 501. Edye played women's fastpitch softball for the DX Oilers for many years and was offered a professional contract to play in Cuba. She volunteered at Stormont-Vail and TPAC. She was a member of West Side Christian Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Job's Daughters and Eastern Star.
Edye married Clinton C. Marker on December 8, 1946 in Topeka. They resided on a farm in Perry until the 1951 flood. They lived in Topeka for many years before retiring to Ozawkie. Clinton preceded her in death on March 21, 1988. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings. Survivors include their children, Jeanne (Russ) Vawter, Clinton "Chip" (Paula) Marker, Jr., David (Kathy) Marker, Mark (Jennifer) Marker, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Judy McDiffett Steuve.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Ozawkie Cemetery. Edye will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W.
