Edwin P. Vogel, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012.
He was born on November 23, 1922 in Stuttgart, KS, the son of John & Margaret (Veeh) Vogel.
Edwin was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School and later the Telegrapher School in Omaha, NE.
Mr. Vogel retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1983, working as a communications clerk for 32 years.
He enjoyed bowling and golfing, he also enjoyed watching many different sports.
Edwin married Ruth Kohlschreiber on Oct. 12, 1952, in Topeka, she survives.
Other survivors include three children, Steve and Linda Vogel, Jane and Ed McNeive, and Warren Vogel; 8 grandchildren, Sherrie (Zane) Hoffman, Diane (Tyson) Nickoley, Ashley (Matt) Cobb, Aaron McNeive, Andrea McNeive, Rebecca McNeive, Zara Robinson and Zoe Robinson; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Leona Tannahill; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka, at 6th and Gage. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Vogel will lie in state from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
