Edward Paul "Ed" Hartner, 86, Topeka, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015.
He was born October 18, 1928, in Clay Center, Kansas, to William and Minnie (Burger) Hartner. Ed graduated from Clay Center High School in 1947 and lived on the farm until 1950. On March 11, 1950 he married Betty Lang of Green, Kansas in the Lang family farmhouse and they moved to a farm southwest of Clay Center. Ed received his military draft notice in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served four years in the Air Force and in 1955 Ed and Betty moved to Topeka. He retired as a maintenance supervisor for USD 437 Washburn Rural school system.
Ed is survived by Betty, his wife of 65 years, one sister, Elizabeth Mitchell, Salina; two sisters-in-law, Sally Lang of Overland Park and Phyliss Hartner of Loveland, CO; one brother-in-law, Ralph (Dolores) Lang, Wichita and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roy Hartner and one sister, Grace Coine.
Ed was an avid golfer, wood worker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed was a friend to everyone he met and his absence will be a great loss to all who knew him.
Memorial services will be 11am, Friday, September 18, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka. Interment will be held at a later date in Green Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Cir, Topeka, KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
