Edward Harold "Ed" Hare, Jr., 87, of Topeka, formerly of Parsons, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
He was born January 23, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward Harold and Hermine Sue (Klenner) Hare, Sr. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Geology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He was a geologist for several oil companies including Inco Oil Company in Parsons, Kansas as a Field Manager.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons, Kansas and later Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.
Ed married Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Lish on August 2, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2011. He married Lillian A. (Burdette) Bowin on August 14, 2012 in Parsons, Kansas. She survives and continues to reside in Topeka.
Other survivors include five children, Paul Hare of Topeka, Anne Clemens and her husband, Kenny Hinkle of Andover, Kansas, Karen Kluczykowski and her husband, Gary, Jr. of Topeka, James Hare and his wife, Lisa of Kirkland, WA and John Hare and wife, Sherry of Gladstone, MO; daughter-in-law, Xiaorong Zhang of Pleasanton, CA ; four step-children, Dr. James "Jupe" Allen and his wife Debbie of Edna, Kansas, Judith Allen Warner of Sherman, TX, Michael Allen and his wife, Mary Lou of Topeka and Robin "Jeri" Lethem and her husband, Pete of Overland Park, KS; eleven grandchildren, Edmond and Vivian Hare, Alex and Elizabeth Clemens, George and Jonna Kluczykowski, Edward, Jacob and Isaac Hare and Henry and Evan Hare; several step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Hagstrom of Ashland, WI; and three brothers, John Hare and his wife, Joyce of Ashland, WI, Robert Hare and his wife, Sue of Winona, MN and Thomas Hare and his wife, Rachel of Cleveland, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David Edward Hare in 2010.
Ed enjoyed spending time with family, especially grandchildren, fishing, gardening, playing card games, especially Cribbage, traveling and crossword puzzles. He loved his profession and continued to work on projects and provided consulting throughout his life.
Ed bequeathed his body to the University of Kansas Medical School. A private gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
