Edward F. "Ed" Hadden, 84, Topeka,KS, loving husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
Born July 16, 1926 to Joe and Amma Hadden in Amarillo, TX, he graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1949. It was there he met the love of his life, Dorothy Carter, whom he married May 26, 1950. He began his teaching career in Boise City, OK, and went on to complete his Masters at Oklahoma State University in 1957, later earning his Teaching Specialist degree from Emporia State University.
Ed invested 31 of his 38 year career teaching biology and physiology at Topeka High School. He was a long time member of First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka and an ordained minister. He and his wife Dorothy could often be found in their large RV doing mission work or visiting family. They volunteered at Webster Conference Center, worked with Disaster Relief, were Volunteer Mission Service Corps missionaries and served as president of Campers on Mission (Kansas/Nebraska Southern Baptist chapter).
He is survived by his five children: Beth and Dale Phillips of Hastings, NE; Ed and Beth Hadden of Bryan, TX; Terry and Gayle Hadden of Wichita; Cheryl and Steve James of Hastings, NE; and Nannette and Raymond Rankin of Topeka. His 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren include Aprille Phillips, Daniel and Alycia and son, Isaac Phillips, Alyssa and James and daughter, Lydia Burnett, Eric and Joy Hadden, Sarah and Michael Wilson, Tiffany and Bryant Hadden, Andrew Hadden, Krystina and Charlie Rankin, Kaitlyn Rankin and fiancé, Brennan Savage, Alison and Holly James, and an exchange student son, Edgar Cadenas of Caracas, Venezuela. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three siblings, and a grandson, Norman Todd Phillips.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19 at First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka. Ed will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday and family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to CareActor, Inc. in Hastings, NE, Webster Conference Center in Salina, KS, or First Southern Baptist Church of Topeka.
