Edward "Ed" Marley

Edward "Ed" Marley, 89, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021.

He was born October 17, 1932, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Donald and Gladys (Miksch) Marley.

As a boy Eugene sold newspapers, then had paper routes for Fairfield Ledger, later became Assistant Circulation Manager during High School. When he left that job he went to work for J.C. Penney, Co. as a stock boy as a senior in HS and Freshman at Parsons College.

He was still working in sales there when we married. He was soon drafted. He had always gone by his middle name, but the Army changed that and he became Edward or Ed. Upon completion of his Army responsibility, we moved to Oklahoma City and he asked for employment at the J.C.Penney store downtown.

Later he transferred to Capitol Hill Store. He quit there and went to work for T.G.& Y. Stores as assistant Manager at the Airline store. Transferred to Shawnee, Okla. when a new store was opened there. By Fall 1958 he moved to Tyler, Texas as the youngest store manager the company had. While in Tyler, he committed to God's ministry, and transferred back to Oklahoma City, Capitol Hill store and began college work in the evening. Was transferred to Norman, OK and in June 1966 was appointed to Pocassett and Friendship Churches in the Okla. Conference. He was appointed to Gridley, Kansas in June, 1968, where he finished his undergraduate work, then moved to Kansas City, KS, Grinter Chapel to attend Seminary at St. Paul. He served at Nortonville-Winchester (1971), Pomona- Richter (1974), Oswego (1977), Marysville (1982), and then Oakland (1983) in Topeka, Pleasant Hill (1988), and his last appointment year 1994 Pleasant Hill and St. Peters United Methodist Churches. He retired in June 1995.

Edward married Mary Ann Miller on July 3, 1952 at the First Methodist Church in Fairfield, IA, she survives. Other survivors include his children; Julia Lea Tetuan, Dennis (Anne) Guthrie Marley, Jonell (Earl) Kay Agent, Carl Edward Marley, and Eugene (Myla) Marley; grandchildren, Jennifer Tetuan, Luis Joe Tetuan, Eric Marley, Jamie Muckenthaler, Kyle Muckenthaler, Adam Muckenthaler, Shane Muckenthaler, Jacob Marley, and Amelia Marley; great-grandchildren, Dorian Tetuan, Dustin Tetuan, Devin Coffman, Hailey Clearwater, and Charles Clearwater; great-great-grandchildren, Dorian Tetuan, Jr., Amelia Tetuan, and Jaxon Tetuan and his sister, Barbara Kurtz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Claire Marley and Holly Justice, his brother, William Marley and daughter in law, Belinda Justice.

A private family funeral service will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, in Topeka.
