Edward Bouton

Edward L. Bouton, 81, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020.

He was born February 18, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Earnest and Gladys Opal Gifford Bouton.

Little is known about his life prior to his brother Quinton passing away and Ed living at Brighton Place North in Topeka. In November of 2002, Ed moved to Sunflower Supports. At Sunflower, he was known as Ed, Eddie, and Eddie Spaghetti. The nickname stuck due to his love for spaghetti and his long skinny legs.

Ed was in every sense of the word, a grouchy old fart. Ed loved to ignore most people either by closing his eyes, covering them, or covering his head. He was a man of few words to those close to him. Otherwise, he was a man of few "grunts". Those who made the effort to establish a relationship with him were paid back beyond their expectations.

Ed had a warm, loving personality for those he cared about. Ed loved to laugh, had a dry sense of humor and would talk your leg off. His dramatic laughter can still be heard.

Eds first and last love was eating and drinking. He made sounds of approval with every bite and drink. Drinks were followed by loud aahs and every bite was followed by mmm. If you asked him if he liked it, he would scold you by saying "you don't know I like that". He loved his sweets: chocolate covered cherries, lemon meringue pie, ice cream, donuts, cookies, etc. He also loved all the old-fashioned country meals such as liver and onions, meat loaf, fried chicken, and corned beef and cabbage, all served with mashed potatoes. Mushrooms and hot tea were always his first choices.

Ed loved antique cars, walks at Lake Shawnee and Gage Park to see the flowers, the zoo, the train, picnics in the park (again the food), or just a plain car ride to nowhere. Ed loved John Wayne, old westerns, and would grimace and moan at every hit in a fight scene. He loved game shows and soap operas with the pretty girls and cat fights. Ed loved long legs and short skirts.

He was loved by many and will be truly missed by all that knew him. A special shout out goes to TPD, Osage City Police, Capitol City Nissan, Bill Ashraf and Heartland Hospice for his bucket list rides in a red convertible and police cars. He was thrilled to turn on the sirens.

With the excellent team from Heartland Hospice, Ed was able to remain at his home. Ed went quietly in the night. Everyone got to tell him what they needed. Everyone had time to be gentle and loving. Ed got to know how much he was loved by many.

Survivors include cousins and many beloved friends at Sunflower Supports. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Earnest, William and Quinton.
