Edna V. Spear

Edna V. Spear, 103, Topeka, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

She was born Oct. 21, 1900 at Clay Center, the daughter of William F. and Bonnetta Heikes Carls. She moved with her family as a child to Wakarusa, and had lived in Berryton for 33 years. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Kansas State College, Manhattan.

Mrs. Spear was a member of Topeka Bible Church.

She married Maurice B. Spear on Nov. 26, 1924 at her family's home in Wakarusa. He died Sept. 15, 1957. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Arlene Spear and a son, Floyd N. Spear.

She is survived by her children, Doris M. Parsons, Pine Bluffs, WY, Gene W. Spear, Topeka, Francis E. Spear, Wichita, Alfred I. Spear, Merritt Island, FL, W. Howard Spear, Shelton, WA, 21 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Topeka Reformed Presbyterian Church with interment in Lynn Creek Cemetery, Berryton.

Mrs. Spear will lie in state after 9:00 am Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm.
