She was married to Eugene "Gene" Shaffer on July 8, 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka.
Edna lived most of her life in Topeka, except for a few years during WWII when her husband worked at the bomber plant in Bellevue, Nebraska, and the Shaffers and several other couples helped organize a Lutheran church there. Edna was a lifetime member—and the oldest member ever—of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Women's League. She and her husband loved to travel with their church groups, and singing in the New Beginnings Senior Choir. In her later years, Edna enjoyed playing cards and participating in weekly outings with her friends.
She was preceded in death by a son Eugene Lee Shaffer in 1951, a brother Paul in 1966, a brother Albert "Al" in 1979, and her husband in 2002.
