Edna Marie (Metzenthin) Greene, 93, Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023.
She was born September 2, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Waldemar and Edna (Horst) Metzenthin. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1947 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Washburn University in 1951, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Edna was a math instructor at Washburn University and worked at Security Benefit. She was the treasurer at Kansas Electric Supply Company, retiring in 2012 when they sold the company.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, served as past treasurer with Topeka Woman's Club, Arab Shrine Women's Auxiliary, treasurer with Elk's Women's Auxiliary, Republican Precinct woman, Delta Gamma Alumni, and Washburn University Alumni and donor. Edna enjoyed being a member of several bridge clubs in Topeka. Edna loved to dance, enjoying participating with the Silver Slippers on KTWU, and she supported Ballet Midwest. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the family cabin west of Topeka.
On April 22, 1950 she married Charles E. Greene at First Lutheran Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Russ (Karen) Greene, Topeka, Richard Greene, Seattle, WA; daughter, Julianne Greene, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Jennifer Abruzzino, Brent (Kirsten), Sean (Hillary), Travis (Bailey), and Trenton Greene, all of Topeka; great-grandchildren, Alec, Caiden, Lexie, Colton, Collins, Sutton, Abbie, Larue, Sylas, and Eamon; her brother, Bud Metzenthin, Hoyt, KS; and several extended family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Monday, January 16, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Washburn Foundation Scholarship Fund or Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
